2026 update: The article below was originally published in 2011. Windows 10 is now at the end of its supported lifecycle, meaning Microsoft no longer provides updates, fixes, or compatibility guarantees. Continued use of Charts for SeaClear on this platform may result in instability or failures. For reliable operation and long-term security, users are strongly advised to upgrade to a currently supported version of Windows.
We have identified an issue with the Windows 10 update released in May 2018 that is causing some long-standing Charts for SeaClear installations to stop working after many years of reliable operation.
This issue affects Charts for SeaClear only . It does not impact Unified Charts, ChartSticks, or any other products. There are also no known issues on older operating systems such as Windows XP, Vista, or Windows 7.
If you are affected, please locate your original DVD or USB installation media and keep it available. Any potential fixes we develop will require access to the original media.
Status as of 25 May
The quick workaround previously suggested has unfortunately not resolved the issue. We are continuing our investigation and will provide an update as soon as we have a viable solution. We hope to have more information by the end of next week.
Charts for SeaClear has been sold and has operated reliably in its current form since 2013. This disruption is the result of changes introduced by Microsoft in Windows, and not due to any changes in our software.
We are also receiving reports that this same Windows update has caused problems with other devices and services, including Bluetooth GPS units. Some users have confirmed that rolling back the Windows update restores SeaClear functionality.
At present, the only confirmed solution is to roll back the May 2018 Windows 10 update.
