Quick action can save lives. A stroke can cause serious brain damage if not treated quickly, but recognising the signs early makes a huge difference. Use the FAST method:

  • F – Face: Ask the person to smile. Does one side droop?

  • A – Arms: Ask them to raise both arms. Does one drift downward?

  • S – Speech: Ask them to say a simple sentence, like “It is sunny today.” Are the words slurred or strange?

  • T – Time: If any of these signs appear, call 999 immediately.

Extra sign: Ask them to stick out their tongue. If it veers to one side, this can also indicate a stroke.

This video shows how to quickly recognize the warning signs of a stroke and what to do if someone is affected.
