Dylan returns to the Slug at Wells-next-the-Sea after the winter. It’s a moment familiar to most yachties as he opens the hatch, sniffs the air for mould and then opens the bilge. There’s a lift in his spirits as he finds very little water in the bilges and everything pretty well ok. Love the mug on the draining board left over from last season; it’s reassuring to us ordinary mortals that we’re not the only ones!! Out with the scrubber to clean the undersides (note the new head to the scrubber & that useful scraper bit on its obverse side – useful, those). Finally we watch the tide come in as the sun sets and a flock of geese honk their way in to land; another season begins
